7 Morning Rituals which will Change Your Life
My morning schedule has changed repeatedly over the past few years. Some things were experimental, some things I just got bored of (which is dangerous, because if you are not looking forward to waking up- you likely won’t), except for the foremost part any change in my morning schedule has been due to my evolving spiritual practice.
Below are 7 healthy morning rituals, all of which I’ve done personally for an extended length of your time and may heavily vouch for. I do not do all 7 of those rituals in one morning, nor have I ever. My morning schedule consists of usually 3-4 activities, some being daily activities et al. being once or twice-weeklies. I’d suggest starting out by picking 1-2 of those to try to do each morning and expanding from there.
1. Tea meditation
This is what I do once I first awaken (on most days). For an extended time, I wrestled with the problem of meditating immediately upon awakening . Once you do this , you essentially sit down and return to sleep. It’s really difficult to just wake up and sit right down to meditate because you’re just dozing off the whole time.
Bringing during a simple tea meditation ritual changed all of that. I drink mostly tea , partly because that’s just what I’ve drunk for years but partly due to the caffeine. I’m not a coffee drinker, therefore the caffeine within the tea is that perfect awaken call. After I drink my tea I’m alert enough to take a seat in meditation without dozing off, so it’s really figured out nicely.
Admittedly, this is often one among my favorite parts of my day. I call this tea meditation, but once you fully engage yourself in what you’re doing with mindfulness everything becomes meditation, so this is often really just “drinking tea”, nothing quite that.
To do tea meditation, you merely got to do every part of the tea making and tea drinking process with mindfulness. Take some time making your tea with mindfulness- heat up your water, get your cup out, pour the water, and sift the tea. Then, take your tea and sit down during a quiet place with it. Drink your tea like there is no tomorrow. Drinking this tea is the most vital thing within the world.
When I sit down with my tea, after each cup I pour I sit the cup down ahead of me, put my hands together, and provide thanks for the tea. I bring my awareness to all or any those people that need to accept the threat of death from dehydration, and every one those people that simply do not have enough. I confirm to first fully respect the tea and express my deep gratitude before drinking it.
After paying my respects to the tea, I simply drink it slowly with mindfulness. I usually drink a couple of small cups (about 1/4 of 1 cup at a time), but you’ll drink however much you want . you’ll shorten the practice right down to just 10-15 minutes from start to end by drinking just one small cup and drinking at a moderately slow pace.
After I’m done I put my empty cup down ahead of me and provide thanks once more for the tea. I do that for every cup of tea I drink.
(You could always prefer to do that with coffee if you are a coffee drinker.)
2. Zazen (sitting meditation)
This is my cornerstone practice and what I do every morning immediately following my tea meditation. While tea meditation has become a crucial practice in its title , I adopted it solely as how to be ready to meditate soon after waking.
Before I started doing tea meditation, I might sit right down to write for a couple of hours before meditating, because otherwise i would just fall asleep and have a really ineffective meditation session.
I sit down once, occasionally twice within the morning Meditation typically for 45 minutes to an hour. Over the years my meditation sessions have lengthened, starting with just 5 minutes each day within the beginning.
I mostly let myself develop naturally, never advancing to a lengthier session unless I felt totally comfortable with my current session length.
If there was one practice on this list that I’d say do every single day with absolute dedication, meditation would be it. Most everything else can fluctuate to some extent, but a daily practice of sitting meditation is one among the foremost powerful daily practices there’s and really should be consistent if you would like to urge everything you’ll get out of it.
3. Get creative
The morning may be a great time to flex your creativity. When a novice monk or nun begins studying Zen, repeatedly , if they need any natural inclination towards art within them, as time goes on they naturally begin to make art of some fashion more regularly.

About once or twice every week I practice Zen calligraphy. I wanted to draw tons back in highschool but stopped over time and just never came back thereto . Zen has uncontrollably possessed me to precise myself with pen and paper once more , and it feels great.
If you’ve practiced drawing, painting, or anything before or want to start out doing so then the morning may be a great time to try to do it. And flexing your creativity within the morning may be a good way to urge your creative juices flowing for the remainder of the day.
Being a writer, this is often what I do with most of my time within the morning. But i do not want to speak an excessive amount about my writing practice, i would like to speak about the advantages of writing generally .
Writing has become one among the foremost beneficial practices of my entire life. Writing opens you up and spurs you to bring form to thoughts and concepts in your mind like nothing else can. If you are going through a troublesome time, trying to work something out, or gain clarity about something then writing is the most powerful exercise I do know to try to do so.
I can’t fully describe how powerful it’s to require ideas in your head and need to find out the way to place them down on paper. this is not always ideal, language has its limitations, but writing may be a powerful exercise with great benefits nonetheless.
And whether you are a writer or not, you’ll get these same amazing benefits. you do not need to be good at writing, you merely got to write. If you’re trying to work something out, anything really, just sit down and write on it. Even better, imagine you’re writing To people . This is often a part of why writing has been so powerful on my behalf . Writing something I do know people are getting to read is often tons of pressure, but it can bring tons of great things out from within you.
Writing itself is its own meditation on behalf of me . I just put my handily on my keyboard and let whatever comes out of me fill the page. This will be really revealing, but also very therapeutic.
5. Keep a journal
I kept a journal for a few years and would highly suggest it. I used Day One on my iPhone, it had been absolutely my favorite method of keeping a journal. I’ve since stopped regular entries, but not for any particular reason, though. I suppose it had been mostly just to stay my efforts focused on a couple of things and to not over complicate my day/mornings.
Keeping a journal has all types of advantages . There are a few alternative ways you’ll prefer to keep a journal, the primary notable way being to notice all the great things that happened on a given day, however small. This type of journaling can help to extend your confidence, cause you to be happier, and provide you with a better perspective during days that seem tough and unproductive.
Another way of keeping a journal, and to me the foremost powerful, is what I’d call a mindful journal. It’s essentially keeping a journal and noting down any thoughts or feelings you’ve got throughout your day. You do not need to write everything, mostly just those things which were unexpected or needed some introspection, but keeping a journal during this way is often an excellent partner to your meditation practice.
6. Start a project about something you’re keen on
This is why I originally decided to awaken early. The peace and quiet of the morning is unparalleled, so it is a great time to figure out anything you would like or have to do.
If you are still deciding what you would like to do together with your life, otherwise you just want to possess some fun doing something you’re keen on , design a fun project around it and do a touch each morning. The uninterrupted time of the morning is definitely the foremost productive part of my day and therefore the perfect time to stretch your creativity as I discussed earlier.
I trained in various martial arts for years, up until just a couple of years ago, a touch while after I started awakening early.
